About Color Identity

I’m all about the rule of fun, and the rules of Limit Breaker as a format were shaped from the start based on what my friends and I thought would be fun. We also want to maximize the ability to use cards within the Final Fantasy sets to build decks around. There are several cards that aren’t viable as Party Leaders that I want to be able to include. Examples of these are Balthier and Fran and Ultima, Origin of Oblivion. There just aren’t enough cards that make them viable Party Leaders given their color identity, and that’s the opposite of fun.

So, today, we’re updating our color identity rules officially by opening up what can be assigned as a Limit Break. No longer will Limit Breaks be tied to the specific color identity of the Party Leader they are assigned to, but instead the color identity of the combined cards in your Command Zone will set the color identity for your deck. This is a departure from Oathbreaker, but as one of my friends said today, “This isn’t Oathbreaker.”

This won’t make any current decks illegal, but will instead open up the ability to make more varied and interesting decks than previously allowed. Which is fun.

So, go have fun, and come up with some wild Party Leader/Limit Break combinations to experiment with. Maybe even build a The Regalia deck!
